Overall the bus fares have decreased on this route. Shosholoza Meyl released their prices for 2012 on the 1st April. The prices for each class increased slightly on this route.

I was amazed to see Kulula airline were cheaper than the Intercape bus from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Bus rices have risen, probably due to the 15th July being near the end of South African school holidays.

Eek, I hate seeing the price of Shosholoza Meyl economy class going up, as that is the cheapest way of getting from Joburg to Cape Town, and so this will hit the poorest hard.
