Eagle Liner offers cheap bus tickets linking Johannesburg and Pretoria/Tshwane to many small towns on the way to Durban and Ulundi in KwaZulu-Natal; Bulawayo and Harare in Zimbabwe; and East London in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. .
The company is relatively new, having started offering intercity coach trips on the 12th December 2014. And if you want to hire out the entire bus, Eagle Liner also offers a charter service.

Departure: Passengers must be at the departure point at least half an hour before the departure time, and in their seat at least 10 minutes before departure. Otherwise your seat may be taken by a standby passenger.
Identification: To board an Eagle Liner bus, you need a valid ticket and corresponding identification document. Note that there are additional requirements fo minor children.
Children: Children younger than 3 may travel on the lap of their parent/legal guardian; free of charge (only 1 per adult - additional babies pay a normal fee). Children younger than 12 may not travel alone - they must have a legal guardian or parent with them. Children older than 12 but younger than 18 may only travel alone, if their parent/legal guardian has signed the correct indemnity form, provided an affidavit proving consent from at least one of his parents/legal guardian if travelling into or out of SA, and in the case of a legal guardian a court order proving they have legal rights. When crossing the border between Zimbabwe and South Africa; any children under 18 travelling with somebody purporting to be their parent, must carry an affidavit from the other parent giving their consent.
Ticket cancellation & refunds: If you miss the bus it's tough luck - you lose everything. Eagle Liner bus tickets may be cancelled up to 6 hours prior to departure, subject to payment of a cancellation fee of 20% - refund are paid into the appropriate bank account within 15 business days. Up to 3 hours prior to departure, and subject to a 20% additional fee, an alternative booking on the same route may be made - if this is more expensive, the client must make up the difference in cost; also you cannot cancel & refund a ticket you have rebooked.
Luggage: Luggage will not be carried unless its owner travels with it. The luggage allowance on Eagle Liner buses is one item whose total weight should not exceed 20kg (30kg for international trips) and it should have the following maximum dimensions: 80cmx60cmx60cm. Luggage outside of the allowed paramaters may either be denied carriage, or charged extra.
Eagle Liner, Intercity Xpress and any associated entities are not responsible for any damage or losses to luggage.
Eagle Liner coaches do not accept any luggage at their own discretion; but in particular inter alia firearms, narcotics, animals, corpses, coffins, ammunition, hazardous/harmful chemicals, explosives or toxic substances.
Alcohol & smoking: Consumption of alcohol as well as smoking is not permitted on all Eagle Liner coaches.
Pets: No pets are permitted except for blind people's trained guide dogs.
Transferability: Only the person in whose name the ticket is issued, may use the ticket.

Some 40km north of Pretoria, Zimbabweans in an Eagle Liner bus were robbed by protestors, after which the bus was burnt. The bus was on its way from Bulawayo to Gauteng. The protest was against the African National Congress's decision to put Thoko Didiza forward as the majoral candidate in the elections. Nobody was injured in the incident. |
