Kulula cheapest JNB - CPT |
SouthAfrica.TO survey |
If an airline's success is measured by having planes packed full of people then Mango Airlines is doing a sterling job - this is the second survey in a row (of Johannesburg to Cape Town flights) that Mango don't have any seats available - on the other hand, if they were a commercial outfit one could argue that they're selling themselves short...and also, it's a bit of a problem for somebody who wants to today book a flight with them on the evening of the 22nd August (as there are no Mango flights left).

We only look at flights leaving between 1819 & 2036 (i.e. reasonable times for somebody finishing work on the Friday), and Kulula from OR Tambo International Airport was cheapest (R729).
British Airways' flight price of R1433 is the most expensive they've quoted on the Johannesburg - Cape Town flight route since the R1532 in the 25 August 2007 survey.
South African Airways' cheap flight While British Airways had their most expensive flight in a while, South African Airways offered their cheapest flight (R1074) on the Johannesburg to Cape Town flight route since our 6 October 2007 flight survey.
We recorded the highest prices ever for the Baz Bus, City to City coach, Greyhound Coach & Translux coach. SA Roadlink came in well below the prices for the other coaches (they have probably lost some of their pricing power since their spate of accidents).

We had a look at hotel prices in Cape Town for the evening of the 22nd August, and were pleasantly surprised to find the lowest rate we have surveyed for the Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town (R798 for an evening, previous lowest was R808 for the evening of the 16th May 2008).

As usual the Road Lodge hotel at Cape Town International Airport offered the cheapest night's accommodation.
And he makes it to Sun City as well, and shares photos of the Palace of the Lost City and the Pilanesburg Game Reserve. Not sure what was meant by the "woofy tour guides" in Cape Town, but I guess people visit South Africa for various reasons!
Here's a photo of Tempest Car Hire kiosk at Johannesburg O.R. Tambo International Airport.
"There is no doubt that you people build the best goddam aircraft in the entire world. The thing that made Ryanair stand out from the crowd in Europe, instead of being just another small shitty European regional airline, was our decision back in 1994 to go with Boeing 737s. We are an oasis of Boeing in a sea of Airbus all over Europe. We are an oasis of punctuality and profitability in a sea of losses and shitty delays all over Europe." Michael O'Leary (the man in charge of Ryanair flights) speaking to staff at Boeing; as set out in the book by Alan Ruddock: "A Life in Full Flight: The story of the man who made Ryanair take off".
