Business class price war |
24 Jul 2009 flights |
As the recession bites, airlines are struggling to fill their business class seats. BA (British Airways) are running a business class sale until midnight 30 June 2009. We checked their Johannesburg to Cape Town prices (R2913), and it was the lowest BA price we've seen since since we started surveying business class prices on this route (18 Oct 2008). However, SAA are even cheaper - charging R2551 for a business class flight! (on a non-price basis we prefer BA to SAA).
Last time we surveyed the Johannesburg to Cape Town flight route we were surprised to see BA (British Airways) coming in cheapest (R633) for economy class tickets, and today there's another good price from BA (R648).
The Mango Flex price of R911 is the cheapest we've surveyed from JNB-CPT (previous best R996 on 21 Feb 2009).

** BA6407 is marketed by Comair as MN6407 on the Kulula website but costs R957 there, as opposed to R648 on the BA website - which shows both the BA & Kulula websites must be checked to find the cheapest prices.

Canadian in Cape Town Robyn Roste from Vancouver (Canada, although I'm not sure that it's necessary to mention the fact that it's in Canada, as I'm unaware of any other Vancouvers in the world) holidayed in Cape Town where she spent her time collecting shells for the geologists back home, and enjoying a Blouberg-Tableview walk. Robyn was surprised that she checked in with Kulula but actually flew British Airways (Robyn, we can confirm for you that both the Kulula and British Airways franchises are operated by Comair, and some of the flights on the Kulula website are actually British Airways flights - they can be identified by the fact that they have four numbers).
The first all-female flight crew on a commercial flight were Emily Warner and Barbra Cooke, who operated a Frontier Airlines flight from Denver to Lexington in Kentucky in June 1984.
Bodies have started being identified from Air France flight 447, including that of the chief pilot, Marc Dubois.
