The best specials are often last-minute deals on buses departing today or tomorrow, which Intercape are trying to fill. However; it's difficult to predict when there'll be a last-minute special and thus risky to rely on it.

Whilst intercity bus pricing isn't as dynamic as airline ticket pricing, the aim of the bus companies is to have full buses, and availability does eventually run out, and on popular dates (e.g. people travelling for holidays) this can happen quite early. It's best to book at least 3 weeks before your travel date; and 3 months before if you are travelling on popular dates. As you approach the travel date the cheapest tickets (saver options sell out), and you may have to pay more for your ticket, or worst-case scenario there may be no availability left.

Discounts & Special Rates

Intercape offers continuous bus ticket discounts for the youth, groups, students, seniors, and the SA National Defence Force - SANDF (only on flexi class and full flexi class tickets, there are no discounts on saver tickets). Correctional Services and the SAPS are considered to be a part of the SANDF for the purp[oses of obtaining the discount..

Group discounts:

Groups of 5 to 9 Passengers get a 5% discount
Groups of 10 or more passengers get a 7% discount

Child discounts:

Infants below the age of 18 months, provided they are not occupying a seat, travel free.
Children aged between 18 months up to 11 years and travelling with a fare paying adult (adult must be paying the full flexi or flexi fare) qualify for a 15% discount; this 15% Youth Discount is applicable on Flexi and Full Flexi classes(ie the children discount does not apply when saver class tickets are booked). The child's birth certificate must be present on the eparture day.
Scholars (Grades 1 to 12): 5% off (Only available at Intercape offices)

Use the booking engine at the top of this page to make your Intercape bus ticket reservation, when you get to the "Discount" item in the booking process (see image below), ensure that you have selected "Child under 12 (15% if with adult)" if you want that discount to be applied.

If you have a baby 18 months or younger travelling on your lap for free, then use the booking engine at the top of this page to make your reservation; ensure that when you get the entry entitled "Travelling with Baby on lap?" (see image below) that you fill in "Yes", and provide the name iof the baby travelling on your lap, as well as the name and contact number of a family member not travelling with you. book 2 seats

Although this is an option, our advice to a mother traveling with an infant is to rather book and pay for 2 seats (at the back of the bus) so that there is more space for the infant to sleep and for the bags with baby-stuff in them. in that way you get more space for the baby to sleep and for the bags carrying baby necessities. The back row seats offer the most privacy.

Student discount: If you are a student, you can get a 5% discount. You must have a student ID which shows that you are registered at a tertiary educational institution; and produce it at the point of purchase and on the day of departure.

Pensioner discount: Up to 15 percent senior discounts if you are 60 year old or older. Pensioners need to produce your identification document at the point of purchase and on the day of departure, proving their age.

SA National Defense Force

Up to 10 percent discount. You'll need to produce official identification documents at the point of purchase of Intercape bus tickets, proving that you are a member of the SANDF.

Old Shoprite Intercape Specials

Keep on eye out on the Shoprite and Intercape Facebook pages; every now and then they comine to offer deals only available via Shoprite and Checkers Money Market counters. For instance n this 2017 special; SANDF and SAP members could get double their usual discount if they booked their Intercape bus tickets at a Shoprite or Checkers Money Market counter (no longer available - let's hope it happens again).
