You've got to check prices of all airlines to find the cheapest - last time we checked flight prices on the Durban to Cape Town route Kulula was offering the lowest flight price at R709 - this time Kulula's price is the most expensive in the economy category. All the other airlines are offering cheaper economy rates than they were six weeks prior. Mango is offering the cheapest flight from Durban to Cape Town, departing on Friday the 13th of May between 13h49 and 21h46. SA Roadlink is your cheapest overland option that Friday as their price remains a consistent R399 despite the recent petrol price hikes. Shosholoza Meyl trips between Durban and Cape Town are still suspended owing to faulty rail tracks and there's no word on when they will be up and running again. This is unfortunate news for travellers as the Shosholoza Meyl economy class trips between these two cities was consistently the most affordable.
These prices were available midday on Thursday the 14th of April - they are subject to change without notice at the discretion of their providers.

The two major events which are expected to see an influx of visitors to the Western Cape this weekend are the Franschhoek Literary Festival and the Knysna Speed Festival. Both festivals auspiciously commence on Friday the 13th of May. If you're up for some driving, both Franschhoek (1 hour out of Cape Town) and Knysna (4 hours out) are absolutely beautiful towns to visit, seeped in culture and history (see Knysna accommodation for a place to stay). The Franschhoek Literary Festival is set to be host to 90 accomplished South African literary figures this year and is renouned as one of the biggest annual literary events in the country. An event not to be missed if you enjoy a good book!
If novels aren't your thing, cruising up to Knysna for the weekend might not be a bad plan. The week-long Knysna Speed Festival promises to be a truly unique experience for motorsport enthusiasts while it supports numerous charities. The residents of Knysna are famously warm and eccentric by nature so you're guaranteed a fun-filled stay no matter what you decide to get up to. Don't forget to do a little hang gliding while you're in the area!
