Rovos Rail offers three superb suite types. All suites are air-conditioned, feature en-suite bathrooms, and are serviced daily. For a 15-day journey, we highly recommend the Deluxe or Royal suites for the extra lounging space.

Rovos Rail Pullman Suite Layout

Pullman Suite

Size: 7 sq metres (76 sq ft)

Designed for optimal use of space. During the day, it features a comfortable sofa which is converted into a double bed (or twin beds) for the evening.

Rovos Rail Deluxe Suite Layout

Deluxe Suite

Size: 10 sq metres (108 sq ft)

The most popular option. Provides a permanent bed alongside a dedicated lounge area and a larger en-suite bathroom.

Rovos Rail Royal Suite Layout

Royal Suite

The 15-Day Namibia Safari Itinerary Overview

Because this is a major 15-day expedition, we have broken down the itinerary into the key highlight phases of the journey. The train stops at incredible locations including the historic Kimberley diamond mine and the vast Fish River Canyon.

Days 1 - 4: Highveld, Diamonds & The Canyon
  • Day 1: Depart the private Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria.
  • Day 2: Disembark in Kimberley for a tour of the city, the Diamond Mine Museum, and the Big Hole.
  • Day 3: Enjoy a walking tour of Upington and an optional wine tasting.
  • Day 4: Cross the border into Namibia. Disembark to view the spectacular Fish River Canyon - the largest canyon in Africa.
Days 5 - 8: Keetmanshoop & The Red Dunes
  • Day 5: Visit the Quiver Tree Forest and Giants Playground in Keetmanshoop.
  • Day 6: Transfer to a light aircraft (or road transfer) for an overnight stay at a lodge in Sossusvlei.
  • Day 7: An early morning excursion into the Namib-Naukluft Park to see the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei, Deadvlei, and the Sesriem Canyon.
  • Day 8: Return to the train in Windhoek (or Mariental) and continue the rail journey.
Days 9 - 13: Windhoek, Cheetahs & Etosha
  • Day 9: Enjoy a city tour of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, followed by an excursion to the Trans-Namib Transport Museum.
  • Day 10: Disembark at Otjiwarongo for a visit to the Cheetah Conservation Fund.
  • Day 11: Transfer to a lodge in Etosha National Park for an overnight stay and afternoon game drive.
  • Day 12: A full day of game viewing in the world-renowned Etosha National Park.
  • Day 13: Enjoy a morning game drive before transferring back to the train to continue towards the coast.
Days 14 - 15: The Namib Desert to the Atlantic
  • Day 14: The train traverses the starkly beautiful, harsh landscape of the Namib desert. A day of relaxation and indulgence on board.
  • Day 15: The train rolls into the coastal town of Walvis Bay, journey's end, where the desert dunes meet the Atlantic Ocean.
