The North Coast-Zululand Great Train Race is an exciting and unique event that will take place on Saturday the 3rd of August 2013. This event is a man versus rail mountain biking and relay event where runners and cyclists will race against a train from KwaDukuza New Guelderland Railway Platform to the Empangeni Station finishline. Runners will enter in relay teams of 5 members each and cyclists in teams of 2 members. Those looking for a real challenge can enter as ironman individuals.
Prices for Johannesburg to Durban travel
For all those who are up for the man versus train challenge, Kulula Airlines offered the best prices for flights to Durban for the event when we checked (prices will change). The flight prices on the Johannesburg to Durban route have decreased by 17% since the same time last year and therefore it is a good time to book flights on this route. If you would like to get to the race by land, be sure to check Shosholoza Meyl for tickets on their train as this was the cheapest travel option when we checked. Car Trawler offered the cheapest rates for car hire at King Shaka Airport. Please note that all prices will change.

Car Trawler is cheapest at King Shaka
We compared car hire prices at Durban Airport from 21h00 on Friday the 2nd of August 2013 until 13h00 on Sunday the 4th of August 2013. A Citroen C1 or similar will cost R328 for the weekend, with 150 kilometres a day included. Please note that prices will change.
