St Bedes Terrace is exceptionally good value for the budget conscious (bearing in mind the often bad press about Cape Town accommodation prices). From R250 a night (for 1 person, prices can change) you get to stay in 3 Anchor Bay (an area sandwiched in between Cape Town's V&A Waterfront and Seapoint, a short drive from the City and Clifton beach), get wireless internet, there's secure off-stree parking, plus use of a pool and braai area (and occassionaly enjoy the view of Signal Hill paragliders). I haven't actually spent a night, but out of 54 guest reviews on a partner site they've been rated 8.5 (with excellent ratings for service). Here's what Eva, from Belgium, wrote: "I was alone in my apartment - there was a huge living room with dining area and very well equipped kitchen. So even if the other two rooms were taken, it would still be comfortable. The staff were great - I arrived around midnight and was welcome by the security guard. The location is great as well - 10 min walk to the sea, about 45m to the city center, you can get a glimpse of the sea from your window. There are shops about 10 min away. Was too cold to try the pool though".

For the first time in our history of surveying the DUR-CPT route 1time are cheapest. We've been looking at the route since 19 May 2007, when Nationwide were cheapest (remember them), and if you think prices only go up, let me tell you that 1time are cheaper today than they were then! Travel prices between Durban and Cape Town have dropped substantially since the last time we surveyed them - three airlines were offering tickets at under R700! Bus prices were also cheaper than they were in July with the exception of SA Roadlink who raised their ticket price by R200. Intercape no longer has buses driving between Durban and Cape Town, but there are plans to reopen the route when peak season arrives (any time from October onward apparently). We're hoping for Velvet Sky to start flying between Durban and Cape Town as they would undoubtedly push flight prices even lower.
We like to conduct surveys of Friday afternoon prices, as this gives our clients a more realistic idea of flight prices, than the flight specials which are paraded in the weekend newspapers, and only available on certain low demand dates and times. This week we looked at flights between Durban and Cape Town, departing on Friday the 12th of August 2011 between 13h49 and 21h46. All prices were available midday on Friday the 15th of July but are subject to change without notice at the discretion of their providers and availability cannot be guaranteed by us.
