Even though there was a Kulula sale on the go (it had been extended for a day), Mango were cheapest - which is why we always urge our clients to compare prices with other airlines even when there is a flight special. First Car Rental is offering R164 a day for the weekend's car hire from Johannesburg Airport. Fuel prices have started to hurt, and as of this week, Baz Bus has raised their fuel levy by R10 - so a 7 day travel pass will now cost you R1470.
Flights, buses and trains survey
We compared prices of one-way flights, coach trips and train trips from Cape Town to Johannesburg, leaving Cape Town between 17h29 and 20h31 on Friday the 6th of May 2011. Mango is substantially cheaper that Friday, while Velvet Sky is only making one Cape Town - Johannesburg trip midday (which falls out of the survey times) and they have bumped their price up to R630. Shosholoza Meyl is offering the cheapest overland trip on the Cape Town to Johannesburg route, but the trip is R50 more expensive than it was about a month ago. The prices below were captured on Friday the 8th of April 2011 and are naturally subject to unreserved change.
