In this week's survey we had a look at the prices of overland travel from Durban to Cape Town. We found the most affordable option to be train travel, with Shosholoza Meyl's economy class fare at R500 per person when we checked (prices could change). For those who find the stop over and train connection in Johannesburg time consuming, bus travel may prove to be more convenient. Travellers should have a look at the prices offered by Citliner on the Durban to Cape Town route as their fares were the cheapest at R560 per person when we checked (prices may change). For afforable car hire in Cape Town, book with Car Trawler, who offered the best car hire deals when we checked. Please note that all prices may change. Events in Cape Town

Head out of Cape Town for a weekend away at the charming village of Tulbagh which is only an hour and a half's drive from the city. On the 28th and 29th of June 2014, the village of Tulbagh will host the Christmas in Winter Festival. The streets will be decorated with Christmas trees and lights and visitors can expect loads of arts and crafts stalls, exhibitions, food and wine tastings and exciting activities to keep the children busy. The entrance fee for the festival is R60 per person including Christmas hat, wine glass, wine tasting at various Wine Cellars, The Rock with Santa Party and entrance to 5 National Museums or R40 per person including a Christmas hat, entrance to 5 National Museums and The Rock with Santa Party. Children under 13 years of age are free.

Kia Picanto is cheapest car rental in Cape Town

This week we surveyed the prices of car hire at Cape Town Airport with pick up at 21h00 on Friday the 27th of June 2014 and drop off at 13h00 on Sunday the 29th of June 2014. The cheapest option we found was R352 for a Kia Picanto or similar for the weekend's rental. Please note that prices may change.
