13 February 2017 Arik Air has suspended flights as the embattled airline was taken over by The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). The airline currently only has 9 operational aircraft, in stark contrast to the usual 30, and can't afford fuel for all of them. Debt has been at the centre of the airline's struggles, as employees haven't been paid in over 11 months and their total debt amounts to over N300 billion. Flights to New York and London have been suspended as the airline's new management hopes to turn it around.
22 June 2015 Arik Air have introduced time changes for their Johannesburg-Lagos route. The new times allow for better connectivity, especially from Abuja and Port Harcourt. Along with the schedule changes, they have also introduced increased baggage allowances. Premier and Economy class passengers travelling from Lago to Johannesburg can carry three pieces of luggage each. Economy class passengers' luggage weight is restricted to 23kg and Premier class passengers' luggage is restricted to 32kg.
12 March 2014 Arik Air becomes the first Nigerian registered airline to operate a flight to the United States in 20 years. The flight was from Lagos to New York in an Airbus A330-200. Previously Arik Air had flown foreign registered planes on the route. You can now fly from Johannesburg to New York via Lagos, with Arik.
10 Mar 2014 Flights from Lagos to Dakar are changed to have a stop at Cotonou on the way; making 1-stop flights from Johannesburg to Cotonou possible (via Lagos).
24 Dec 2013. Arik Air has chosen OASES software from Commsoft to assist with ongoing airworthiness management of its fleet.
19 Dec 2013. Arik Air introduces a cellphone/tablet booking app which can be downloaded on Android, Blackberry and iOS platforms, becoming the first west African airline to inroduce such an app.

1 Nov 2013. Ethiopian Airlines & Arik Air have been voted the 2 best airlines operating flights from Nigeria, in the Akwaaba Africa Travel Market Awards. OR Tambo International Airport was recognised as the best airport in Africa. Emirates was announced best international airline in Africa, whilst RwandAir won the best short haul airline in Africa award.
31 Oct 2013. 8 Arik Air passengers are refused entry to South Africa, and have to fly back from OR Tambo International Airport to Lagos.

28 Aug 2013. Arik Air has set up a petition complaining about the deportation of 40 Nigerians from OR Tambo International Airport in August, which is being looked at by Nigeria's Minister of Foreign Affairs. “It has become worrisome and there is urgent need to put a stop to this act as perpetrated by the Immigration authorities in Johannesburg.” said Mr Olugbenga Ashiru of Arik Air.
21 Jun 2013. An evening Arik Air flight was 500m from landing on the runway in Uyo (Nigeria) when suddenly the runway lights went went out as a result of a power failure at the airport. Fortunately the pilot was alert enoguh to reengate the engines and fly back up and return to Abuja.
