The North West province lies in the heart of the subcontinent, providing a link between South Africa and Botswana, and skirted by the Kalahari desert, Gauteng and the Free State on the other sides. The North-West is well known for being the largest platinum production area in the world, and its lesser-known Stelland area is the "Texas of South Africa" with some of the biggest cattle herds in the world. With its opportunities for cultural and historical heritage experiences, the North West Province is also known as the "Heritage Province" and the "Platinum Province".
