Agriculture in the North West

After mining and mining-related manufacturing, agriculture is the North-West's next most valuable sector.

Crops

The most important crops are white maize (the North-West being the biggest producer of white maize in South Africa) and sunflowers. Fertile mixed-crop farming land is found in the regions around Brits & Rustenburg.

Animals

Marico & Vryburg are home to some of the largest cattle herds in the world (Stellaland, near Vryburg, is sometimes referred to as the "Texas of South Africa").
