Potchefstroom is situated some 45km northeast of Klerksdorp and 120km southwest of Joburg; on the the Mooirivier. Trails along the Mooi River are popular tourist attractions. The town is known as the province's "home of sport", with the provincial headquarters of a number of sports situated in the town.
