SA Express are the Best

2013-11-25. Rating 5/5 : From the moment of boarding I felt the relaxed friendly atmosphere of the people traveling to East London. I was fetched from the airport by a good friend who has lived on the banks of the Nahoon river for most of her married life. We drove over the Steve Biko bridge over the Buffalo river, the harbour is on that river. We took a slow drive along the beachfront. At the Eastern beach we stopped to view a large school of dolphins surfing the waves! They were a beautiful sight. We drove to Floradale nursery for a buffet lunch, good service and surrounded by local artist paintings on the walls. The following morning we set off to Grahamstown for three days of fun, seeing three shows a day and eating fantastic food from different food stalls. It was very cold in Grahamstown but the accomodation in student res was comfortable and warm with a generous breakfast every morning. Then time to get back to East London. The Saturday night we went to the Boeretroos venue to enjoy a glass of wine and a burger while listening to South African artists. Very early the next morning we walked to Nahoon river mouth with its golden beach and warm sea water. We then went to Lavender Blue for a sumptious breakfast of French toast Bacon and scambled eggs, after a cup of coffee we wandered around the stalls of organic fruit and vegetables. We bought beautiful roses at half the price of the big cities so we could take to friends and family to brighten up their day. We just had to go to the Wimpy near the Orient beach we found a window seat and enjoyed a light snack and cooldrink while watching the ships sailing into the harbour. The tearoom has a uninterrupted view over the sea to harbour wall. One more stop----the Freezland for a milkshake—the best in South Africa. The museum is fascinating and also has a restaurant that serves a good Sunday lunch, I haven’t even mentioned the aquarium that has been a landmark for as long as I can remember. Alas time to leave this gem of a place,I hope to return one day to enjoy more of the unspoilt beauty. I have flown with SAA, SA Express and the old One Time. I rate SA Express 5 - the best/ followed by SAA - 4. One time would have been on a par with SAA.
