There are Kulula flights to Cape Town from both Johannesburg's O.R. Tambo International Airport as well as from Lanseria Airport (flights from Lanseria are often cheaper, and are more convenient for those living in the north of Jozi).
(if you are flying in the opposite direction, see our Kulula Cape Town to Johannesburg flights page)
23 January 2014. Rating 5/5. Always love your specials and the attached news letters – gives us ideas of what to see & where to go when visiting the places reported in news letters. My little story is short and sweet …… We live in Mpumalanga – near Nelspruit to be exact and belong to a hiking club here & each year the club organize a weeks hiking holiday somewhere – this year it was to walk amongst the beautiful Namaqualand dasies! Something my husband & I have been wanting to do for years & now this was our opportunity so we jumped at it! One destination now ticked off the bucket list ! Flew with Kulula from Joburg to Cape Town mid September & returned a 10 days later also on Kulula as is was the cheapest at the time. As usual it was an awesome flight. Love the crew they always make you feel relaxed in such a way you know your holiday has begun ! We were 16 of us from the Lowveld Rambling Club – flew together, walked together & returned together …. It was an awesone experience doing a trip like this with like minded friends & seeing Nanaqualand in all its glory, visiting the Namaqua National Park with its magical carpet of beautiful spring flowers . What an amazing sight ! We walked roughly 10 -15 kms a day in the Nat Park & also in the Kraamies & Cerderberg mountains, enjoying the spectacular scenery of unique succulents & rock formations. This is definitely the best way to see one of earths natural wonders – it’s a photographers paradise. This area had just had good rains prior to our visit so we were due for a spectacular show …. And we weren’t disappointed ! This year the club is planning a hike in the Karoo …’Die Hel’ and should be just as amazing too ! for those who have not experienced Namaqualand during flower time ……. It’s a must for everyone ! and we will go back that’s for sure. Thanks to Kulula and their amazing specials we can we manage to partake in these trips. Thanks Kulula ….. we flew safe, landed happily & hope to do it this year too !!! Regards, Iona Wendelspiess
28 December 2013. Rating 5/5. I flew from Johannesburg's Lanseria Airport to Cape Town with Kulula, to go visit my sister and her family. We left on time, I like Lanseria Airport because the airport is clean, and it's easily accessible from where I live in Lonehill, the new drop off and go is very convenient and you get free coffee in the waiting areas. It was quite cute because somebody had a birthday on board, and folk started singing happy birthday, but the cabin crew thought it wasn't good enough, so they got the whole aircraft to sing happy birthday with gusto, and everybody clapped at the end. It was quick and easy and before I knew it we were there. Nothing remarkable or unremarkable about the flight, which is just the way it should be. Heidi Everett.
26 July 2013. Rating 5/5. We booked a flight with Kulula for a week-end away with Prof. James and his wife Melanie to spend a week-end in Hermanus to see their new holiday house they bought. Unfortunately Melanie got ill and they could not join us although we booked the flights for us four. So it was only me JFC and my husband Andre who flew on the 15th March – Lanseria - Cape Town at 6h00 am and returned on the 17th March 2013 – Cape Town 19h00 - Lanseria. Reservation code LVPDD1 We both took a day's leave to spend more time in Cape Town. We had a very enjoyable flight both ways with no complaints and as always enjoyed. Rating 5. We prefer flying with Kulula as they are most affordable and on time. We unfortunately did not take photos but had a wonderful week-end with lovely sunshine and a bit of cold weather. All we did was eating out, shopping and relaxing. We spent Sunday in Kleinmond which is a lovely holiday town and had lunch on the harbour and then journeyed back to Cape Town Airport. We try and get away from the hussle and bussle of our city once every month and in my working surroundings where I am working for my husband who is an Attorney, we get an afternoon off once a month and can leave at 12h00 on the Friday. We then usually book a flight for the afternoon on the Friday and a late flight back on the Sunday. Presently my husband is an Acting Judge so the time tables changed and we can only fly after 4h00 on a Friday. My wish is however that flights be made available to Margate where we have our holiday home as to fly to Umhlanga, rent a car, drive all the way to Margate does not make flying worth while and then rather go by car. Driving to OR Tambo or Lanseria from home, then fly to Umhlanga, then the drive to Margate, takes the same time as to drive, but of course, we prefer flying , its more relaxing and enjoyable. We both love flying! Joan
24 Sep 2011. Rating 4/5. Arriving back from Spain it was lekker to hear the South African accent and clicks of our 11 languages in the air. Whenever I return from overseas I realise anew how much this country is part of my soul. With all its issues SA remains a beautiful place to be. This was the last leg of an epic trip from Barcelona to Frankfurt to Johannesburg to Cape Town to bed! And we had a 10 month old and a 4-year-old in tow (if anybody's had a more arduous travel I'd like to hear about it!).
As I was going through airport security at O.R. Tambo, the elderly lady going through next to me was indignant at not being allowed through with her pair of scissors (the official risk is that she might choose to use them as a weapon). Having said that, overall I found the airport security at O.R. Tambo to be more lax than in Frankfurt and Barcelona. For instance, I didn't have to put the stroller through the security machine, or take my Baby Bjorn off and put it through the machine.
Having read the stats that Kulula's had the worst on-time record this year, I was paying particular attention to whether our flight was at all delayed. Unfortuanately, I have to report that we all had to wait on board for about 20 minutes for the catering to arrive.
We took full advantage of the Kulula "fares worth celebrating" special, by buying Cape Town to Johannesburg tickets for 2 adults, 1 child and 1 infant for R242 (R1292 total charge, but R1050 was covered through Kulula moolah accumulated using a Kulula credit card). I love booking when there's a Kulula special on!
It was great to see something of a role reversal, with a female pilot and four of the flight attendants being male. And I'm happy to say the pilot did a great landing and the lads at the back were excellent stewards.
