If you're looking for the quickest funniest & often cheapest flight to Durban, then Kulula is your go-to airline. There are Kulula flights to Durban from both Johannesburg and Cape Town, and kind of from Port Elizabeth (you can book PE to DUR flights on their website, but you end up flying with their sister airline, British Airways Comair). In total there are 84 flights to Durban a week with the code MN (Comair's flight code).
The airline has an extensive selection of flights from JHB to Durban, operating both from OR Tambo International Airport as well as Lanseria International Airport (it's the only airline flying from Lanseria to Durban). However, there are thin pickings on the Cape to Durban route - only 1 Kulula flight to DUR a day, supplemented by a number of British Airways Comair flights. From Port Elizabeth to Durbs it's all British Airways Comair. To date the airline operates no international flights to Durban.
Flights to Durban are all to King Shaka International Airport (DUR), and all in Boeing 737-800 planes.
Why are they the quickest airline, you may ask? Well, their scheduled flight times are almost always shorter than other airlines (we can only speculate on the reasons for that, but if we were heading to Durban, we would also want to get to its beaches in a hurry).
After getting operations going with Cape Town to Johannesburg flights in 2001, Kulula Airline's second flight route was from Johannesburg International Airport to Durban International Airport; in the process becoming the first budget airline to fly between the cities. On the 29th October 2007 Kulula launched flights from Lanseria Airport to Durban, becoming the first airline to fly the route (this followed the launch of Lanseria to Cape Town flights).
In April 2003, flights from Port Elizabeth to Durban were launched in Kulula's colours. On the 27th March 2011 Comair switched from using Kulula branded planes on the PE to DUR route, to using the British Airways brand.
12 May 2013: My wife and I recently flew with Kulula to Durban on holiday. Just before returning my wife had an injury to her leg. Both of us were amazed at the courtesy and service levels we experienced with the provision of a wheelchair, a lady to push it ,who accompanied us to a special waiting area. Transportation was provided in a special lift type vehicle from the terminal to the aircraft, assistance to seating and lastly this was all repeated on our arrival back at Cape Town Airport. Keep up the great work. Kulula are definitely our favourite airline. Pat and John

Kulula competes for passengers with Mango flights to Durban, and the 2 airlines are the only budget carriers on the route (British Airways Comair isn't really a competitor; and South African Airways & SA Express are full-service carriers). Mango Airlines is far more active on the Cape Town to Durban route; whilst Kulula is far more active on the Johannesburg to Durban flight route.
