Emirates Flights from Durban

With their dearth of international flights, the name "Durban International Airport" had become something of a misnomer...up to 1 October 2009 when Emirates Airline started operating daily flights between Durban and Dubai. The benefit of this stretches far further than just the Durban-Dubai route - as from Dubai Emirates connects with many major world destinations, opening up options for one-stop flights including:

The new flights will be operated on the 17th, 27th and 31st of December and the 11th of January. This introduces a first class lounge and also increases capacity on the route by 30%. "During the last three years, we have experienced positive passenger growth which we attribute to the growing recognition of this city as a popular tourist destination and its increasing influence as one of the key trading hubs in South Africa. As a result, we have enhanced our services here with the introduction of a larger B777-300ER aircraft that will cater for more passengers travelling from Durban to our extensive global network," said Emirates Senior Vice President Commercial Operations – Africa, Jean Luc Grillet. "Since this route’s inception from October 2009, Emirates has greatly contributed to the passenger growth experienced at the old Durban airport and now at the King Shaka International Airport (KSIA).”  ”This has become a popular flight and demonstrates Durban’s growing status as a destination of choice. Our team at KSIA has always and will continue to support the Emirates team in Durban." said the General Manager of ACSA King Shaka International Airport, Terence Delomoney.

  • 2013-12-06 Rating 5/5 :"My name is Annette Singh, and I recently flew with Emirates to India. I flew with my son and we had a very good experience. First of all the ticket price was superb, and the host and hostess were excellent. My son received a lot of goodies and he loved it. The flight arrived at the destination half an hour before the expected time. I want to travel to India again in February next year and I want to travel with Emirates. They gave me first preference in entering the plane and provided us with good food. I loved the cameras on the plane that allowed us to view what was happening outside. I will fly with Emirates because it's worth the trip, and when we landed in Dubai they offered us food vouchers. That was awesome."

  • 2013-06-24. Rating 4/5: "This is my story of an amazing holiday. It was after almost 12 years that my husband and I had planned a holiday overseas. Our destinations were India and Dubai, and we flew  Emirates. We checked our luggage in at the Durban Airport for destination India, which was our first stop. On Christmas morning when we arrived at the Mumbai airport we were gravely disappointed to find that our luggage had not arrived. The Emirates staff took down our details and we left for our hotel. Two days went by and luckily we had  packed a spare set of clothing and  underwear  in our hand luggage. However there was still stuff we needed to buy. We were disappointed and anxious to receive our bags and then on the morning of the third day we received a call from the Emirates office informing us that our bags had arrived. This was a relief and I am pleased to say that the bags were not tampered with. Emirates paid us our taxi fare to the Airport and they compensated us for the inconvenience we incurred. Hats off to Emirates as they lived up to their image. From there onwards everything was smooth sailing so to speak. It certainly was an amazing holiday with many beautiful memories that were made. I  would really  love to go back to India some day soon. I would rate them 4 out of 5 as I have travelled twice after my India trip with Emirates and on both occasions the flights were pleasant."

  • 2013-05-11. "We have been travelling locally with SAA and British airways and internationally with Emirates and Air Mauritius. The staff on the flights we traveled were very warm and friendly. I remember, when we traveled in August last year on Emirates I was sitting  next to this guy that was from Morrocco and he had dropped his whole cup of tea on me! I was travelling from Durban to Dubai. And the staff on the plane were amazing - they brought me a towel and blanket to clean up, and they even took my shirt and washed and dried it. By the time we landed I had a fresh clean shirt to use. I never knew that being on a plane you would be taken care of to that extent. And whenever we check in at the the staff as well make sure we are comfortable with our seating. Also the food on the plane was great. It's served hot and fresh. For my husband that's what he enjoys most. We travel together all the time. Our trips are holidays and business.  The next trip we are going to take our kids cos we know that they will enjoy flying".

  • 2013-04-25. "I had the privilege of flying on the Emirates Airliner. It was my two year old daughter and 14 year old son's first experience on an aircraft and I was a bit sceptical about taking a two year old on a long flight to Saudi Arabia, but everything turned out just fine. My daughter slept through most of the flight and my son was thrilled that he had a large selection of channels to choose from, not to mention the games he could play too. I must commend the flight attendants. They were extremely attentive and efficient. The airline is child-friendly and I would go to the back of the plane to wash my child's bottle and make her milk. They always had someone going around asking if we needed any refreshments or water. It was convenient to board an from Durban and I am extremely grateful to all the flight attendants as well as the pilots for delivering us safely to our destination. WELL DONE! I would fly via EMIRATES airline to anywhere in the world."
