With the plethora of award winning restaurants in the area, Franschhoek is a foodie's dream (make sure you book in advance as the best restaurants are always full). It is about a 50 minute drive from Cape Town's city, and is well known for its French origins (it was settled in 1688 by 176 French Huguenot refugees), mountainous scenery, boutique hotels and opportunities for wine tasting.
If you're into fine dining then Le Quartier Francais in central Franschoek is a great choice, with its award-winning "The Tasting Room" restaurant (not open on Sunday and Monday evenings) - be sure to make a reservation.

You don't have to stay at Le Quartier Francais to eat there! La Cabriere Country House is a bit out of town offering more quiet, but it's only 10 minutes to walk in. Ask for a poolside room, with their views of the mountains.

20 April 2012. Marcela rented a vehicle and drove to Franschhoek to stay at Maison D'Ail. "I LOVED the design of this guesthouse. Everything looked so clean and modern with a slight rustic touch... The view from the guesthouse was just amazing...If you can splurge and get the luxury room, I think you should definitely consider it. Our room was perfectly fine for us, but I know we could have gotten a bigger room and a better view and a balcony with the luxury room."
