Direct flights from Cape Town to London were ended by SAA in 2012.
From 28 March 2014 SAA are replacing the A340-600 they use on flight SA234 from Johannesburg to London, with an A330-200. As the A330-200 is smaller than the A340-600 this will lower its capacity on the route, which is making at least a R60m loss a year. Hopefully this will mean lower losses for the airline.
SAA flights from JNB to LHR are expected to take 11 hours and 30 minutes. There are 2 flights which leave OR Tambo International Airport every day:
SA234 is scheduled to leave JNB at 20h55 and arrive at London Heathrow at 06h25
SA236 is scheduled to leave JNB at 21h35 and arrive at London Heathrow at 07h20
2013-10-30 : Rating 5 /5 : On the 6th Aug 2013 I travelled from Cape Town to London. This was my first time flying and I enjoyed my trip to the fullest. The flight was awesome, the flight attendants were very helpful and the entertainment was great. My boyfriend is currently in the UK and I would love to go see him again but need to save for another ticket lol, but I will definitely choose SAA as my first choice even if I must pay a little extra - it is so worth it. I have even convinced my boyfriend to use SAA as his main airline instead of BA which is the UK’s main airline . Thank you SAA for the awesome experience - would love to travel again shortly. Bronwyn
