About the same size as Israel or Wales, the Kruger National Park is the largest game park in South Africa. To the North of the park is Zimbabwe, to the east is Mozambique, to the south Mpumalanga, and to the west is both Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
The Kruger National Park is part of the GLTP that was established through the signing of a treaty by the presidents of Mozambique, South Africa & Zimbabwe in 2002.
The Giriyondo Tourist Access Facility links the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique with the Kruger National Park in South Africa.
If visiting the Kruger National Park be aware of the danger of carjackings on roads leading into the park.
The Kruger National Park is home to more species of wildlife than any other game sanctuary in Africa, including:
147 species of mammals, amongst them being the BIG five (lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino & the elusive leopard), but also cheetahs, African wild dogs, spotted hyena, warthogs, antelopes, bushbuck, common eland, hippopotamus, kudus, savannah elephants, giraffe, impalas, nyalas, primates, reedbucks, waterbucks, wildebeests, zebra.

34 amphibians
The flora includes 336 species of trees.
The park is composed of six ecosystems:baobab sandveld
combretum-silver clusterleaf woodland on granite
lebombo knobthorn-marula bushveld
mixed acacia thicket
mopane scrub
The park gets its name from Paul Kruger (in 1926 the British administration named it after Paul Kruger as an act of reconciliation). It is blessed with an oustanding road network (unlike many other reserves). Along the park's western border are a number of private reserves (which increase the land available to the park's game).
