Paragliding is the 2nd most fun thing to do in South Africa, and mustn't be missed :) You don't need any training, just enjoy a tandem paragliding experience with a trained professional guiding you. The best spots to go paragliding are in Cape Town and on the Garden Route; with Gericke’s Point in Sedgefield being particularly popular.
Cape Town tandem paragliding flights are usually from Signal Hill or Lions Head, providing spectacular vistas of the city and Table Mountain.
Garden route paragliding flights are from Sedgefield, Wilderness/Map of Africa, Wilderness/Beach Hotel or Kleinkrants/Paradise Ridge. There is no paragliding in May, June or July; as the weather is too inconsistent. There are options for longer flights, motorised paragliding (which is popular for landscape photography & viewing marine wildlife), inflight photos and video footage is an optional extra. 29 Jan 2024. At 5pm the NSRI Wilderness was alerted by eyewitnesses of paraglider having crashed into a rocky sanddune, after launching at Gerricke's Point in Sedgefield. Proceeding via Swartvlei Beach, the all terrain vehicle was unable to get all the way to the sticken paraglider, due to the high tide and rocky coastline. Rescuers hiked the remaining distance and began treating the paraglider, a 50 year old male German tourist, who had suffered serious injuriess. The paraglider was moved to a hospital, where he was in a serious but stable condition.
