How old is too old to fly?

What is the oldest you can be and still allowed on a plane? There is, of course, no age limit. But I know that web developers will have wanted to place reality checks into the flight booking system, to be able to point out when somebody had entered an unimaginably large age.

So I decided to check the booking engines of the various airlines to see whether there was an age at which they don't believe that you're that old :)

Mango Airlines asks to "Please enter a valid age" for anybody born before 1 January 1890. Sorry for those older than 124!

South African Airways is a bit stricter, preventing those born before 1 January 1902 from entering their age. Sorry for those older than 112! This same restriction applies to those booking SA Express and SA Airlink flights, as they use the same flight booking engine as South African Airways.

 

The Kulula and British Airways flight booking systems weren't included, as the part where you fill in your age comes after the part where you have to fill in your payment details (if at all).

Youngsters

There are also lower limits on the age restrictions. Some airlines don't allow under 12 year olds to fly alone (Mango & Kulula Airlines), and all airlines don't allow passengers under the age of 6 to fly alone.
