1time Durban review

1time v Mango v Kulula
Battle of the low cost airlines

This is a review of our 1time flight from Durban to Cape Town. We flew with Kulula from Cape Town to Durban on the 29th Jan 2011, staying at Southern Sun's Garden Court South Beach for 2 nights, then cruised with the MSC Sinfonia from Durban to Portuguese Island; before finally flying from Durban with 1time to Cape Town.

We arrived at the King Shaka International Airport really early, at 11am for our 5:30pm flight, and were disappointed that 1time wouldn't allow us to check in our luggage until 3pm. This meant we couldn't get to the airport lounge we were planning on chilling out in. Instead, we relaxed at the Mug and Bean - which is almost like a business class lounge, with powerpoints all over the show and 15m free internet access. At 3pm we checked in (very short queue :), and enjoyed spending some time at the BidAir lounge.

The flight took off on time, and our little one was delighted to get the kiddie pack (with an outline to draw in with crayons provided, a packet of crisps and a little puzzle). The front toilet wasn't flushing properly. I'm becoming more convinced that 1time's MD80 series of aircraft are noiser than the Boeings operated by Kulula.
