Climate of the Eastern Cape

The Eastern Cape's climate reflects its geographic variation.

The coast receives about 700mm of rain annually, the Drakensberg mountains have over 1000mm of rain (so think twice before you sleep out in the open - be sure to book a Drakensberg hotel), while there is low rainfall of about 450mm in the Karoo.

Some of the Drakensberg mountains have snow in winter.

The Eastern Cape is a summer-rainfall area.
