When you're talking flights to Turkey you're mainly talking flights to Istanbul. The only airline operating direct flights from South Africa to Turkey is Turkish Airlines (from Johannesburg & from Cape Town via JNB), and the good news is that they often are pretty reasonably priced. To book a cheap flight from South Africa to Turkey, contrast airfares and with the airline bookings tool on the left.
Note that from the 11th April 2014 South Africans cannot get visas on arrival anymore in Istanbul, or any other entry point of Turkey. You will have to apply for your visa before you leave SA.
You can apply for a Turkish visa online. On the 18th February 2014 Turkey simplified its visa charging system and reduced visa fees to R524 for all of multiple entry, single entry and double transits (previously it had different fees for the 3 categories).
Our trip to Turkey had many highlights and a few lows (Dad's lost passport for one, but that’s another story!). We had booked a ferry from Istanbul, and overnight trip to Bursa “the Silk City” to do more cultural sightseeing. On a whim , we took a cab to ULUDAG, Turkey’s Ski Resort, 45 minutes outside Bursa. Fortunately for us, unusually late snowfalls (April is Spring) transformed Uludag into a white wonderland, with quaint chalets and hotels nestled in the snow. The snowski ride was exhilarating, and for the more adventurous the ski down the slopes (not as easy as it seems, but just as much fun) and there was also the more "chilled" option of the cable car for breathtaking views. This unplanned, spontaneous day trip was awesome , memorable, and worth a romantic overnight stay. A pity we had already checked in to our Bursa hotel. This peaceful, affordable, secret ski getaway is highly popular with Gulf nationals - get your "Swiss Alp experience" in Uludag, when next in Turkey.

Istanbul is the most well known city in Turkey, an ancient city famous for joining Europe and Asia.
Izmir is home to St John's Monastery & Mary's House.
