20 July 2012. "I can't dance, dance with my baby no more..." - it created such a joyous vibe at 1time's check-in counters in Cape Town, when one of their ladies stood up and started singing this, that singing ability should be a job requirement! And 1time's check-in counters are well positioned, we walked into domestic departures and were trying to figure out where they were, when we realised they were right in front of our faces :) There was no queue, and the gent at check-in interacted wonderfully with our 1-year-old, being vigilant that his fingers weren't caught in the machinery and high-5'ing him. We almost got through without them realising that the Mrs is pregnant, but at the last moment they noticed and checked whether there were any complications, and we produced a medical certificate showing that there aren't any issues.
We left a wet and foggy Cape Town International & peeled off layers of clothing on arriving at a warm & sunny O.R. Tambo International Airport. Other than delighting us with the wonderful atmosphere at check-in, the highlight of the 1time flight was the ample legroom they offer.
The only negative of the trip, and we can't blame this on 1time, was that our lock on our luggage was broken when it arrived in Johannesburg, although nothing was stolen. It appeared that the baggage handlers had lifted the luggage by the lock instead of by the handle, thus breaking the lock off the bag.
We strolled into Avis at O.R. Tambo, and went immediately to the front of the queue. We had hired a VW Polo Vivo 1.4l, but on seeing the Hyundai ix35 tried to switch to it, as we're planning on buying one and thought it would be good to have an extended test-drive. Sadly, Avis were out of ix35's, these get booked out quite fast and one has to make one's reservation at least 3 days before the rental to stand a decent chance of getting one. The Vivo drove nicely and had ample boot space, the Mrs missed having electric windows, although I actually prefer the manual windows.

It cost R973 for 2 days car hire for a Toyota Corolla (group C vehicle), picking it up from O.R. Tambo International Airport and dropping it off at Lanseria Airport (we're flying back with Kulula). This includes 201km per day.
