Translux Bus Tickets Bookings
Siyazama! As part of the business rescue plan, Autopax, which runs City to City and Translux Buses, had its assets purchased by PRASA on 1 Aug 2024, and is now running as a division of PRASA instead of being a (wholly-owned) subsidiary.

Much like travelling through the skies, Translux offers passengers on board entertainment via a central screen, reclining seats and on-board toilet facilies. These all add to a pleasant travel experience on a budget. With the aging Translux bus fleet, PRASA is focusing its efforts on City to City branded coach trips, and there are few Translux trips at the moment.
At its peak, the Translux bus offered daily stops at 100 destinations in South Africa and other major cities in Zambia, Mozambique and Malawi.

- 1 Aug 2024. PRASA purchases the Translux and City to City assets out of Autopax; instead of owning Autopax it now owns Auotpax's assets, and runs Translux and City to City bus brands as a division.

12 April 2017. Amidst driver strikes for many bus companies (e.g. Putco, Buscor, Golden Arrow and Mgqibelo); it was at first thought that Translux wouldn't be impacted; as the company is not part of Cobeo (Commuter Bus Employers Organisation) or Sabea (SA Bus Employers' Association); however it appears that Translux buses too are not operating.

10 April 2017. Autopax, the owner of City to City and Translux, has its 8 bus contract with the Gauteng transport department renewed for the 6 months from 1 April 2017 until 30 Sep 2017.

2016. Translux shifted to using RIVERBED as their advertising agency (along with City-to-City). RIVERBED is a owned by Monalisa Zwambila (a black female).

5 January 2016: A couple travelling on a Translux coach from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth has come forth with photographs to prove that the coach was infested with cockroaches. The couple reportedly travelled with the coach company on the 28th of December 2015 and was seriously disappointed with the hygiene of the coaches and the way their serious complaints were dealt with. Translux has responded saying that cockroaches are a year-round problem which they try to manage with frequent fumigations, but this isn't as effective during the festive season when more passengers are travelling and bringing their own food and beverages on board. Translux says this is a problem all long haul coaches struggle with. Best bring your can of Doom!

9 January 2014: A Translux bus from Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg takes 28 hours, after the coach broke down near Colesburg.

In September 2010: Translux South Africa sponsored the Ke Nako bus for the Spring Music Break. This is the bus that carried football teams around during the Fifa World Cup. It has flat screen TVs, reclining leather seats, 4 fridges and a microwave.

Meal breaks
Since the 1st April 2014 Translux have stopped supplying free snack packs on board its coaches. However, there it still stops regularly along the route, where you can order food.

Translux's central bookings

There have been umerous instances of this booking engine only partially working and passengers not being sure whether the booking went through or not (see comments section below); so we recommend not using PRASA's website and rather booking through online bus ticket retailers such as Blu Label, Shoprite and mandated travel agencies.

Translux (and City to City) are brand names used for luxury coach operations of Autopax Passenger Services (Pty) Ltd. Autopax in turn is a wholly owned subsidiary of Prasa (the Passenger rail agency of South Africa), which is owned by the South African government.
