About MyCiti

MyCiTi has revolutionised bus travel in Cape Town since it kicked off in 2010, on the back of the Fifa World Cup. My CiTi complements the existing services being provided by Golden Arrow (the much loved golden oldie of Cape Town bus services).

Operating on a number of popular routes, these higher-end busses offer the perfect solution to tourists and locals who wants to explore Cape Town's popular sites.

They have also invested heavily in luxury bus stops dotted across Cape Town.

News

  • On 20 Feb 2024 Cape Town's Mayoral Committee recommended that the N2 Express Service's contract be extended for 2 years to 30 Jun 2026.
  • 16 Feb 2024. On its way from Khayelitsha (Kuyasa) to the city centre (Civic Centre Station), a MyCiTi bus bursts into flames on the N2 national road just before the Borcherd Quarry offramp.

  • 19 Feb 2022. MyCiTi's N2 Express service started operations on the 19th Feb 2022 with buses travelling on the N2 from the Cape Town city centre (Civic Centre station) to (and back, ie in both directions):
    • Khayelitsha (Kuyasa station); operated by Golden Arrow and Lisekhonikamva (Codeta)
    • Mitchells Plain (Kapteinsklip station);
    • Mitchells Plain Town Centre station
    • The Mitchells Plain buses are operated by Golden Arrow and Mitchells Plain Rapid Transit (Route Six).

17 April 2018: MyCiti bus has announced that they have cancelled all operations for tomorrow. This follows a strike notice by the South African Road Passengers Bargaining Council (SARPBAC) that will affect the entire South African bus industry. MyCiti will action a lock-out in order to protect their passengers and personnel. The strike will likely affect passengers on other bus companies as well.

8 November 2016: Three MyCiti buses were involved in a knock-on collision this morning. Nearly forty people were left injured, although the majority of these were minor injuries. A full bus D04 from Kapteinsklip crashed into the T01 from Dunoon which then was knocked into A01. One bus driver has already been suspended and a series of investigations will determine further action.

20 June 2016: In an effort to stay ahead of the curve, MyCiti busses are currently testing virtual kiosks. Commuters at the Century City and Adderley Street stops can now make use of the machines to buy a myconnect card or load Mover Points on their myconnect cards. These machines operate in English, isiXhosa and Afrikaans. These locations were chosen for their internet connectivity, 3G at Century City and Fibre in Cape Town.

15 June 2016: The My CiTi busses have launched a pilot campaign giving ten busses free Wi-Fi. They hope to be able to expand this to include all 380 busses soon afterwards. Each passenger will be limited to 50 MB per trip, perfect for keeping up to date on social media or taking care of your inbox.

21 January 2016: The City of Cape Town has announced that they are in the process of procuring electric busses for the My Citi bus service. “As we extend the footprint of the MyCiTi service across the city, we also have a responsibility to lower our carbon emissions and the impact of pollution on the urban environment,” Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille announced. Along with the busses the city will also require charging stations, which will possibly be solar powered.This will enable the city to save on fuel and maintenance costs and possibly earn Carbon Credits which the city can sell to developed countries that are signatories of the Kyoto Protocol.

  • 1 Dec 2010. MyCiti's airport service is suspended, due to lack of sufficient demand.
  • May 2010. MyCiti starts operations, shortly before and in anticipation of the Fifa 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
