The Purple Shall Rule! We're absolutely loving these "my first flight" writeups that readers are sending in. Please email us yours, and you may win a R500 cruise voucher. "I will never forget my first flight for as long as I live! My late husband and I were married for about three years (back in the 1960’s). My sister and her late husband lived in Oranjemund in (then) South West Africa. It is very far to travel by car so we decided to start saving like mad to be able to afford the plane tickets. We couldn't wait to get to ‘Jan Smuts Airport” to take our very first flight to South West Africa. Whe we boarded, I actually had butterflies in my tummy and held on tightly to my husband’s hand. It was a DAKOTA but I was so excited that I wished the flight would never end. We hit a few “potholes” (Winking smile) and sometimes it felt as though we were climbing mountaints (Confused smile) but nothing could steal my excitement. The highlight of the flight? The fantastic food we were served during the flight. Unfortunately I cannot remember the starter, but the main course was Crayfish Thermidor served on beautiful plates with all the trimmings and salads. We even had desert! I know this is not much of a story, but I have turned 72 this year and that is still one of my most vivid memories! Thank you for reading my short but wonderful memory." Thanks Delövia for sharing this wonderful recollection of a flight to Namibia. |

The bottom line: We're not sure why they've chosen this specific date, but on the 18th November we see the commencement of Mango flights from Johannesburg to George; and Airlink flights from Johannesburg to Bloemfontein, Johannesburg to Richards Bay and Johannesburg to Kimberley. What is good about starting flight routes on this date, is that you catch the December holiday traffic. |
