There's not only a Qatar Airways flight special on the go today, but also the fabulous news that they are deploying a B787 on their Johannesburg-Doha flights from the 1st May 2014, and also increasing their flight frequencies from 7 to 10 a week. Click here to read more about Qatar Airways and to take advantage of discounts of up to 20% they are offering for flights booked by the 6th March 2014.

Mango Happy Day Deals

Jip, we're not imagining it, it definitely seems like Mango sales have switched to Wednesdays, as this is the 4th week in a row. The Mango Happy Day sale runs from 9am on the 5th March 2014 to 9pm on the 6th March 2014. SAA Voyager members, bear in mind that you can use your Voyager miles to pay for the base fares (one of our 22 travel predictions for 2014 was the increased popularity of using SAA Voyager miles to pay for Mango flights).

Present Credit Cards or you Can't Fly

If you have booked to fly Mango, you'll want to read this next sentence very carefully : Because credit card fraud has soared, all travellers must show the credit card or debit card which was used to purchase the flight, at the point of checking in. If you can't do that, or show a verifiable copy of the credit card, then you wont be able to fly.

Cheapest 1- way airfares

Here's are the cheapest 1-way airfares which are part of today's Mango sale today. *Note that it's possible for all airfares listed below to have changed, both as a result of the limited number of seats on sale running out, or because of human error (yeah, we haven't made a mistake for a while, but we'll own up and say that it does sometimes happen). In the brackets after the flight prices, there's a comparison against last week's Mango special. There was very very limited availability of the fares below on very few days in March and April (we're talking literally 1 or 2 days when we checked).

  • Flights from OR Tambo International Airport to George from R885* (R20 up from last week)

  • Flights from CPT to Lanseria International Airport from R855* (same as last week)

  • Flights from Lanseria International Airport to CPT from R755* (same as last week)

  • Flights from OR Tambo International Airport to PE from R995* (same as last week)

  • Flights from CPT to Durban from R935* (up R10 from last week)

  • Flights from Cape Town to Bloemfontein from R835* (same as last week)

  • Flights from OR Tambo to PE from R995*

  • Flights from Cape Town to PE from R995*

  • Flights from OR Tambo to Durban from R610*

And that's all we had at the time of going to press (it's possible more routes were introduced later). The pick of the week is the Lanseria to Cape Town flight, from R755*.

Mango Airlines happy day sale on the 5th & 6th March 2014

If you haven't been keeping an eye out on flight specials for a while, then you'll see that airfares are a bit higher than they used to be. This is the inevitable result of airlines' cost base having increased as a result of Rand depreciation (it increases fuel costs and USD denominated maintenance costs).

Free Ice-cream on cruises

Don't forget about the free ice-cream & soda package you get on all cruise bookings, this week only.

ice ceam with "free ice-cream package" written above it

The bottom line: Kenya Airways are receiving their first of 6 Boeing 787s on the 4th April 2014. In addition, they're getting a B777-300ER in May. Fleeting up nicely with new, fuel efficient aircraft.
