When is that loving feeling going to return to South African - Nigerian relations? In March last year we had 125 Nigerians being refused entry into SA as it was suspected they had faked their yellow fever vaccination cards, Nigeria then accused South Africa of "xenophobia "and refused to allow South Africans into Nigeria on the same day, with Arik Air suspending its Johannesburg - Lagos flights in protest (just for a day).
Nigerians wanting to visit South Africa seem to be having difficulties working with Lagos's SA High Commission. In an article entitled "South Africa & Nigeria: Still there is No Love Lost", The Guardian Nigeria writes how Nigerians have to travel from afar to get to the South African High Commission, which closes at 11am, and frequently can't get there on time, and interview people who are struggling to get their reptriation fees repaid, and a gentleman who got no response to his visa application and now wants his passport back. "The applicants began to use assorted expletives to describe South Africa and their embassy. Some went into their mental archive to dig a short history of Nigeria’s contribution to the freedom South Africans enjoy today."
