Hotels
30 screws were found to be missing from the protective panel of an Airbus A340 aircraft after a full service by Taeco (a Chinese company) in mid-November, following which Air France has suspended the maintenance of its aircraft by Taeco.
Taeco, based in southeast China (Xiamen) also does services for American Airlines, BA, Emirates, JAL & Lufthansa.
AFP also reported that in 2010 an Air France Boeing 747-400 was grounded after the plane's surfaces were repainted using potentially flammable paint (the plane had been flying for 3 weeks).

The Purple shall rule! "So what's the use of being a loyal Kulula traveller. Here I am sitting at O R Tambo since 11 o'clock waiting for my 5.30 flight this afternoon. I approached the kulula desk and spoke the manager Sidwell to put me on a earlier flight if any seats available. He tells me there are seats available but an additional R840 is to be paid. I will certainly think twice before I travel or recommend kulula to any of my friends. Painfully yours. Noorie"

The Bottom Line: Listed Companies should maximise profits for all their shareholders, and it's inappropriate for a company to better the lot of one shareholder at the expense of other shareholders. Now, it's reported that Comair/Kulula was "under pressure to change its car rental partner from Europcar to Bidvest-owned Budget" (Bidvest owns 29% of Comair). Comair/Kulula should be doing what's in its own best interests, and not feel under any pressure to take a different path. Other areas of conflict are that Kulula Travel competes with Bidvest's Rennies Travel & Harvey World Travel, & Kulula's SLOW lounges compete with Bidvest lounges. It's reported that Gidon Novick has been the driver of the ancillary forms of Comair income.
It's also reported that Gidon Novick's resignation as joint CEO of Comair was "driven by Brian Joffe, CEO of Bidvest" (Comair's largest shareholder), and that even though Bidvest doesn't have board representation Joffe was invited to Monday's meeting. It's surprising to me that a conflicted shareholder of Comair's should be allowed & encouraged to be so influential in a major decision.
