New Zealanders require visas to visit SA

In January 2017 the South Africa government anounced that New Zealand citizens would henceforth be required to obtain visas in order to enter South Africa.

New Visa Requirements for children postponed until June 2015

16 September 2014: Parents travelling with children under the age of 18 can rejoice as the new Visa requirements has reportedly been postponed until 1 June 2015. From that date you will need an unabridged birth certificate and written permission from both parents if you want to travel with a child.

South Africa issues travel ban from Ebola infected Countries

21 August 2014 : Health Minister Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi has announced that all non-South African travelling from Liberia, Sierra Leone & Guinea will not be allowed to enter the country. This comes after the cabinet decided to ban everyone except South African citizens who are travelling from high risk countries. South Africans who are travelling from these high risk countries will have to go through intense screening. Travellers from Nigeria will still be allowed entry despite there being recorded Ebola deaths in the country.

Controversial new immigration laws said to be simplified for the Tourism Industry

31 July 2014 : Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba said at a conference this week that the new immigration regulations will be simplified for the tourism industry. Gigaba said that they had to ensure that the law does not deter people from coming to South Africa because of the administrative nightmare that it could cause. The unabridged birth certificate that children need to provide customs officials upon arrival and departure was the main concern for the tourism industry. Gigaba however stated that any equivalent document issued in the tourist’s home country will gain them access to South Africa. However, he did not say which documents are equivalent to the unabridged birth certificate, which creates a bit of a grey area. When there is a grey area in the law, there is almost always a problem. Regarding the new law which states that people need to apply for visas in person in their own country, Gigaba said that more facilities will be opened in countries like China and India to speed up the process.

Visa Reguirements to Visit South Africa from Dubai

South Africa issues visas to foreigners who want to visit the country for holidays, business or to see people they know. Unless you are from a country exempt from South Africa's visa requirements, you'll need to apply for a visa. For tourist and family visits applicants must submit the following documents in person at the SAConsultate-General in Dubai, you can phone at +971 (04) 397 5222.

  1. The visa application form BI-84, completed in black ink.

  2. The fees for the visa

  3. Your passport (which must have at least 2 blank visa pages in it, and be valid for more than 30 days after your intended date of departure from South Africa) and a photocopy of it. If you arrive in South Africa without those blank visa pages, you'll get turned back (it's happened to a lot of travellers).

  4. 2 passport sized photos (35x44mm) which were taken within the last 6 months.

  5. A vaccination certificate if the Act so requires. A yellow fever certification, if you're travelling through a yellow fever endemic area (not required for direct flights from Dubai to South Africa, unless you have recently been in a yellow fever zone).

  6. A provisional flight booking (or other method of travel) as well as travel itinerary and hotel booking.

  7. If any children are coming along, proof of guardianship is required

  8. Statement and backing up documents about your purpose and duration of visit.

  9. Confirm the nature and duration of visit. Letters from SA host company and from the UAE company for any business-related visit, including the duration & nature of visit. For family-related visits a letter from the SA host (including a copy of their ID book & contact details).

  10. A cash deposit may be requested.

  11. Proof that you'll have enough funds to sustain yourself during your visit in the form of:

    • last 3 months' bank statements

    • travellers' cheques

    • an invite by your host in SA and any undertakings

    • letter from your current employer

    • bursaries

    • medical cover
