The MSC Grandiosa will be the first ship built in the "Meraviglia Plus" class, thus becoming MSC Cruises' new flagship and the largest ship in its fleet. The ship was named on the 15th November 2017, in a steel-cutting ceremony, which doubled as the coin laying ceremony for the MSC Bellissima, and took place in Saint-Nazaire. The ship is being so named to indicate "grandeur & magnificence", said the head of MSC Cruises, Pierfrancesco Vago - this is confirmed by the fact that the Grandiosa will house the first fine arts museum at sea. The Grandiosa is planned to have her first cruise in November 2019. She will be the largest of MSC's ships, with a maximum number of passengers of 6 334.
The Grandiosa will be christened in Hamburg, Germany on the 2nd Nov 2019; becoming the first MSC ship to be christened in Germany since 2010 when the MSC Magnifica was christened there. This was announced in April 2018, when the MSC Meraviglia made her maiden call to Hamburg.
As with the MSC Meraviglia, MSC Seaside and MSC Seaview, the Grandiosa will offer entertainment in the form of the Cirque du Soleil, and will feature 2 new shows from them.
