cruise ship FAQ

The MSC Melody has now been retired from cruise services. To make a booking on a cruise please navigate to the MSC Opera or MSC Sinfonia.

The MSC Melody enjoyed its last cruise in Southern African waters in February 2012. The MSC Sinfonia returned in November 2012 to start the season off from Cape Town. The MSC Opera will be the new addition to the fleet in Southern African waters and will cruise mostly from Durban. We are still taking bookings for the Melody but for cruises leaving from Genoa, Italy. The Melody is the smallest of the MSC group of passenger cruise ships, and therefore a tiny bit less stable (which some people enjoy, as the larger ships are just too stable and don't give that feeling of being at sea).

Melody cruise review

8 Feb 2012. Sail Away party on the MSC Melody. In the excitement of getting on the ship & exploring every nook & cranny, do not miss the sail-away party - it's the most vibey, with the staff making an extra big effort that the cruise gets off to a good start.

Natasha describes her tropical cruise in the Western Cape: "We headed to the bow of the ship and spent maybe an hour just watching the motion of the sea and the crashing force of the ship on the water. This is when I truly felt privileged to be able to say I have cruised on the MSC Melody as at that moment, there were only two of us, the ocean and our thoughts. The sea breeze brushing against my face and the stars above me - truly a memorable experience."

Chelna Mare does a review of her MSC Melody cruise to Mossel Bay: "I loved feeling the movement of the ocean and stumbling around like a drunkard. One step forward, 3 steps to the right, oh yeah, now you're doing the Melody Shuffle!"

Dec 2011

For an end of year function South Africa Travel Online takes its staff and their partners on an MSC Melody cruise to Mossel Bay.

Alice Khne writes about her experience on an MSC Melody cruise to Mauritius, Reunion and Madagascar, and shares her tips for anybody thinking of going on a cruise. "Mauritius had much more to offer than I had imagined." "Reunion is French in every sense of the word. They use Euros, ride French buses, drink Champagne, have impeccable taste and eat baguettes. They also refuse to speak English." "Madagascar, definitely the most "third world" of the three islands, did offer the most natural wonders."

The ship

MSC Melody is the smallest ship in MSC Cruises fleet, and is designed to meet the highest standards of Italian style and sophistication, whilst offering a relaxed and informal cruise-ship experience. With a capacity of just over 1,500 guests, MSC Melody creates a welcoming, almost intimate feel on board, especially being the only ship designed with family in mind with 5 bed cabins available. Graceful public areas with grand high ceilings lend the MSC Melody to a sense of openness with comfortable, stylish staterooms, spacious and well-appointed. The ship's retractable, transparent Magrodome allows you to enjoy one of the two swimming pools and whirlpools even if the skies cloud over.
