Cheap Flights from Johannesburg to Iceland

To get on the cheapest flight from Johannesburg to Iceland compare airline prices using the flight bookings tool on the left. You would fly from Johannesburg to Reykjavik's Keflavik International Airport (JNB-KEF). There are no direct flights from Johannesburg to Iceland, but several 1-stop options, most of which involve flying Icelandair on one leg. KLM from Johannesburg to Amsterdam, and Icelandair from Amsterdam to Keflavik is often cheapest.

Take a trip to Iceland & you'll think it should be named Greenland, and that Greenland should be named Iceland (old joke). With its plentiful water, greenery abounds in Iceland. And don't expect to be able to call people by their family names - they don't have these! (if Bjarni is the son of Jon, he is Bjarni Jonson).

Airlines from Johannesburg to Keflavik

All international flights to Iceland are to Keflavík International Airport (KEF), which is 50km from Reykjavik. Because Icelandair has so many connecting flights with Europe, most of the flight options involve flying 2 different carriers: one airline from JNB to Europe and then Icelandair from Europe to Keflavik. The flights from Johannesburg are from OR Tambo International Airport.

We carried out a snapshot survey of airfares and then ordered airlines from cheapest at the top (the order will have changed since).

Another options is to book the 2 legs seperately. Keflavik International Airport

In the Icelandic language Keflavik Airport is known as Keflavíkurflugvöllur (ICAO code BIKF, IATA code KEF). Leifur Eiriksson Air Terminal is the only terminal at the airport (Flugstöð Leifs Eiríkssonar).

The only way to get from Keflavik Airport is by road (there is no railway line) with there being 4 options : (1) hire a car, (2) Flybus, (3) Gray Line bus or (4) taxi. The Flybus from Keflavik Airport takes 45 minutes to get to the Reykjavik city centre (enjoy the free wifi on the bus). The Flybus is generally the cheapest if you want to go to the BSI bus terminal, and the Gray Line bus is the cheapest to go directly to a hotel in Reykjavik (do inform the driver of the bus when you board what hotel you want to go to). Taxis are the most expensive method of getting from the airport.

Find out more by visiting the official Keflavik International Airport website - in particular it has the updated arrivals & departure times. You can phone Keflavik Airport at +354-425-6000.

Do not confuse with Reykjavik Airport

Do not confuse Keflavik Airport with Reykjavik Airport. Reykjavik Airport only offers domestic flights within Iceland, whereas all international flights are to Keflavik Airport. To confuse matters further, Keflavik Airport is sometimes referred to as "Reykjavík International Airport"! Reykjavik Airport's IATA code is RKV and ICAO code is BIRK.

Reykjavik Airport is the one to use if you'd like to fly onward to Akureyri, Bildudalur, Egilstaoir, Gjogur, Hofn, Isafjorour, Sauoarkrokur or Vestmannaeyjar.

About Iceland

Johannesburg (indeed the whole of South Africa) is 2 hours ahead of Iceland. We advise fto set your watch first to the city you're stopping at en-route (so you don't get confused about times at the airport), and then to Iceland's once you have boarded your flight to Keflavik.
