There used to be no airline operating flights from Cape Town to Pretoria (Wonderboom Airport, PRY). Interlink Airlines, which was operating flights on the route from 1 Nov 2009, went into provisional liquidation on the 23rd Feb 2010, but from August 2015 all this will change. From the 16th of August 2015, SA Airlink will fly daily between Cape Town and Wonderboom (Pretoria).
Before then we suggest flying from Cape Town to Lanseria and then driving.
The driving distance between Cape Town and Pretoria is some 1464km.
Airlink will suspend flights between Cape Town and Pretoria from the 8th of May 2018. Airlink CEO Rodger Foster said the route had not developed as expected, but that they are not closing the door on the route as it could become viable again in the future. Customers booked on flights after the 8th of May 2018 will have the option of either being re-accommodated on alternative SAA flights to or from OR Tambo or being refunded.
In early May 2015, Pretoria's Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa revealed that commercial flights between Cape Town and Wonderboom, Pretoria might become a reality at the end of 2015. SA Airlink has now announced that they will indeed start operating a daily service between Cape Town and Pretoria. There are three return flights scheduled per day between the two cities. Wonderboom will have flights departing for Cape Town at 06h45, 09h45 and 17h45, while Cape Town will have flights departing for Wonderboom at 06h45, 15h00 and 17h30. “All businesses, industries and communities located in and around Tshwane will benefit from the new services. In particular, manufacturing sectors such as in the case of the automotive industry located within the catchment and various diplomatic missions and NGO’s located in the area, where there is a strong nexus with their counterparts on Cape Town will stand to benefit from air services at Wonderboom,” says Rodger Foster, CEO of SA Airlink.
