Alternatively, hire a car in Durban and take a drive (you may want to go for an unlimited mileage option). The shortest route (from Europcar at Durban King Shaka Airport to Europcar at Kimberley Airport) is 793km and takes some 9 hours of driving. Along the way you'll pass Pinetown, Pietermaritzburg, Howick, Estcourt, Harrismith, Kestel, Bethlehem, Paul Roux, Senekal, Winburg, Bloemfontein and Petrusburg, . Be sure to keep some cash handy for the toll roads.
