24 Nov 2014. Kenya Airways have announced that they will be suspending their flights between Nairobi and New Delhi from the 25th of November 2014. All passengers who have already booked flights on this route after the 25th of November will receive a full refund without having to pay a penalty or service fee.
Premier World passengers will be happy to hear that the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport recently received two new luxury lounges, the Simba lounge and Pride lounge. This is not only limited to Kenya Airways premium passengers but also available to Sky Priority passengers from the airline’s SkyTeam. The circular Pride lounge will feature a Cigar Room, Piped music (sectional), Washrooms and showers, a Kiddy Zone and a Dining/ Working area. The more intimate Simba Lounge features an Smoking Zone, Family Lounge, Business Experience Centre, Piped music (entire facility), Washrooms and showers, Noise Proof Quiet Zone for sleeping and a Dining/Working area. These new state-of-the-art lounges will compliment Kenya Airways' new fleet.
On the 10th April 2014, Kenya Airways announced that it had entered into a codeshare agreement with South African budget carrier, Kulula Airlines, and would be selling Kulula's flights from Johannesburg to Cape Town, Durban, East London & George.
20 April 2016. Kenya Airways will launch flights between Cape Town and Nairobi this July. The three weekly flights will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays via Livingstone, Zambia. This will be the first direct connection between Cape Town and Livingstone. The airline has however stressed that passengers who are continuing on to Nairobi will remain seated, for a quicker connection. Several schedule changes along with the new runway at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport will result in 30% better fleet utilisation for the airline.

30 Jan 2015. Kenya Airways will be connecting Nairobi to Hanoi, Vietnam from the 30th of March 2015. The flights will depart at 22h20 on Mondays, Wednesdag and Fridays arriving at Hanoi at 11h55 the following day. Return flights will depart on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 01h05 and arrive in Nairobi at 08h45.
3 June 2014. Kenya Airways is launching flights from Nairobi to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja; thus creating 1-stop flights from Johannesburg to Abjua via Nairobi. There are no direct flights from OR Tambo International Airport to Abuja (JNB-ABV), and other competitors offering 1-stop flights are Ethiopian Airlines, Air Namibia, Egyptair, SAA and Arik Air. 21 Nov 2013. Kenya Airways launches flights from Nairobi to Guangzhou, China, thus creating 1-stop flight options from Johannesburg to Guangzhou via Nairobi.
2 Aug 2013. Kenya Airways commences flights from Blantyre's Chileka Airport (Malawyi), meaning you can fly 1-stop from Johannesburg to Blantyre via Nairobi.
July 2013. Flights are launched to Abu Dhabi, creating 1-stop flights from Johannesburg to Abu Dhabi with Kenya Airways, via Nairobi.

22 Feb 2016. Cameroon airport is closing for urgent repairs to the runway, so all Kenyan Airways flights to Douala, Cameroon are being rerouted from 1 March until 21 March 2016. All affected passengers will be contacted and rebooked.
19 Aug 2014. The Kenyan Government's plans to introduce visas for South Africans visiting Kenya has again been temporarily suspended. Originally postponed until the 1st of September 2014, the Kenyan High Commission announced that they have again postponed the implementation of this new requirement. No new date has been given for Visa requirements. It has supposedly been suspended to allow time for negotiations between SA and Kenya's government.
18 Aug 2014. Kenya Airways will be suspending flights to Liberia’s capital Monrovia and Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown. The airline has decided to suspend the flights because of the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The company stated that they took this decision after consulting with Kenya’s Ministry of Health. He advised them to suspend these flights asap. The suspension starts at midnight on Tuesday. The country will also deny entry to all passengers from Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone from next Tuesday.
19 Dec 2013. Kenya Airways resumes flights from Nairobi to Juba Airport (South Sudan) - KQ350, KQ1350 & KQ352. However, flights were again suspended from the 23rd December 2013 as a result of inter-ethnic fighting. "Full refund for fully unutilised tickets shall be allowed to passengers who were booked to travel during the above mentioned period. Partially utilised tickets shall be refunded less the used portion," said Kenya Airways' COO, Mbuvi Ngonze.

On the 14th November 2013 Kenya Airways released their financial results for the 6 months to the 30th September 2013.
African airliners are turning profitable (for now!). Following the profitable results recently reported by Air Seychelles and Air Mauritius, Kenya Airways reports that it has turned its loss in the previous period into a tiny comprehensive income of KShs0.1m over the 6 months to the 30th September 2013. This result is good when one considers the sales challenges faced as a result of the fire incident during peak season at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport; as well as several countries issuing advisories against travelling to Kenya after the terrorist attack at Westgate Mall in Nairobi.
During the period Kenya Airways reduced its African footprint by 5%, suspending flights to Bangui, Libreville, Cairo and Ougadougou; but started flights to Abu Dhabi, Livingstone and Blantyre. The airline's unprofitable daylight flights to London were withdrawn, and its B777 was used on flights to Mumbai (the B777 is 50% larger than the previously used B767). All this resulted in a capacity of 7,106m available seat kilometres - more or less the same as the previous period. However, passenger yields grew 7% year on year.
Revenue was up 9% to KShs54m, whilst they managed to reduce direct costs (thanks to reduced fuel prices) and overheads (thanks to a lower staff complement), but suffered an increase in fleet ownership costs - all in all this resulted in an operating profit of KShs2m, a vast improvement on the operating loss of KShs6m suffered in the 6 months to the 30th September 2012. The profit of KShs2m translates into an operating margin of 3.2%.
After subtracting net finances and other costs and adding its gain on fuel derivatives subtracting tax and losses on hedged exchange differences on borrowings & fuel contracts and adding the defered taxation on hedges, total comprehensive income for the period was KShs0.1m was made.
Kenya Airways is investing in its future - whilst KShs4m net cash was generated from operating activities, the airline spent KShs16m in investing activities, including KShs10m on deposits for aircraft purchases.

2013-07-17. Rating 4/5 . My most recent travel was to Kenya for work and like most businesses we try to maximize the benefit to the company with the least time lost. So, in exchange for travelling business class at the company's cost, I got to fly Kenyan Airways midnight Johannesburg departure and return on SAA's 16h00 flight back. The travel was startlingly different - Kenyan airways utilize an older aircraft with bigger seats with legroom (African continent business class is not a flat bed). The cabin was warm. I was supplied with a blanket and a proper pillow. The reclining mechanism on my seat was broken but was still very comfy. The cabin stewardess was amazing - she refilled drinks without being asked, and my neighbour had to ask her to stop! Her smile was warm and genuine. The meal was standard airline fare - not wonderful and also not memorable. I dozed off to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta Airport half an hour ahead of schedule. No matter, I was whisked off in the early morning darkness to my Southern Sun hotel to freshen up and have breakfast before my meeting and return home. The return flight with SAA to Johannesburg was different. SAA business class was smaller with far less legroom and a chilly cabin. It was modern and cold. The staff were professional but did not have the warmth of the crew of the outbound flight. The meal was a snack. Drinks were refilled at request but took time. I had a colleague on the flight with me - she felt really cold and requested a blanket only to be told that they were not handed out on daytime flights and they'd have to see if there was one available (one was eventually found). I was cold but having left in the middle of a cold winter night in Johannesburg was warmly dressed. An hour prior to landing, her blanket was requested back as apparently airline regulations did not allow for blankets whilst landing. She was not allowed to keep it and tuck under seatbelt. In a very short trip, I discovered the cheaper business class trip with Kenyan Air was far superior in service to the more expensive SAA with their modern aircraft. If I had any say in my return flights to Kenya, my choice of carrier will be Kenyan Airways as opposed to our national carrier. Well done Kenyan Airways- you allowed me to arrive warm, well rested and hydrated to a quick business meeting whilst SAA chilled me to the bone and reminded me that we were having a mild winter compared to their cabin temperature.
