Fly Kumba was Zimbabwe's first low cost carrier, flying between Johannesburg and Bulawayo, and planning to later open routes between Harare-Bulawayo, Harare-Vic Falls, Johannesburg-Harare and Harare-Kariba. It suspended operations in January 2011.
The chief financial officer, Patrick Chapwanya, and chief executive officer, Lloyd Muchaka are Fly Kumba's 2 major shareholders.

Third time lucky. Fly Kumba's first flight takes place between Bulawayo and Johannesburg with a wet-leased Boeing 737-500 from Air Namibia. They are flying 3x weekly (Tue,Thu and Sat), which is probably all that Air Namibia can do for them, as it's the only days the aircraft is available at O.R. Tambo International, when not doing flights to Lusaka with Zambezi Airlines. Air Namibia's Boeing 737-500 Aircraft are operating simultaneously for 3 airlines: (1) Air Namibia (Johannesburg - Windhoek), Zambezi (JNB-LUN or NLA) and FlyKumba (Johannesburg - Bulawayo). |

Fly Kumba's second date for its maiden flight was pencilled in for 14 Dec 2009 from Harare to Bulawayo, but this too didn't realise. Patrick Chapwanya, Fly Kumba's Chief financial officer said that "The Harare-Johannesburg route will represent our second phase but for now we want to complement Air Zimbabwe on the Harare Bulawayo route. Ideally we want to create a local market for our business first before venturing outside the country so our next stage could be Harare-Bulawayo-Johannesburg." |
