The SA Blog Awards 2009 had a category for "Best travel blog". Here's a rundown on the finalists, ordered by Google Pagerank & then Alexa ranking.
Blog name |
Alexa |
Rundown |
Wild Watch |
847324 |
The highest Pagerank of the blogs, but interestingly not the most traffic (according to Alexa). The blog covers wildlife sightings in Africa & India. An interesting photo of the month of a tiger hanging onto the trunk of a tree. |
Cape Town Daily Photo |
92949 |
Interesting range of photos on the home page - restaurant & 2 cricket photos, including one of a man immersed in his newspaper during the thrilling South Africa - Australia test match at Newlands. |
Pakiscorner |
968110 |
The first thing I'd advise this blogger to do is to set up a title tage in his/her homepage...there's also a funny "under construction" sign in the top right of the homepage. |
66 Square Feet |
2650772 |
The plethora of beautiful photos stand out well on this blog's white background. In my opinion this blog is deserving of much more than the relatively low amount of traffic flowing through it. The blogger resides in New York. |
Getaway Alison Westwood (link removed, after it stopped working) |
258303 |
Nothing wrong with Alison Westwood's writing, but what I find a bit annoying with the Getaway blogs is that one has to page down through adverts to get to the articles. |

Stunning photos, and Amawalker does not restrict travels to South Africa - homepage has photos of France on it! |
|
149246 |
Very professional layout. Blog content seems to focus mainly on Cape Town, and there's a sub-theme of top 10's of this, that and the other. |

I like this blog. It has some stunning photos, regular updates and is true to label dedicated to Cape Town. |
|
Getaway Tony Park (link removed, as it stopped working) |
258303 |
It's surprising that Google hasn't found Tony Parks yet, given the large number of articles he has on the Getaway site, dating back to 9 Jul 2007. Nothing wrong with the quality of Tony's articles, though. |

Trailrider labels itself "Adventure & Ride reports", and with it's homepage packed with motorbike photos it is very much true to label. Amazingly, it's not get ranked in Google! |
If you're into wildlife, without a doubt Wild Watch is your number one. And Trailrider has cornered the market for biking adventures. The blog I like best in terms of travel photos is 66 Square Feet (whilst I like the photos on Cape Town Photo & Amawalker, they aren't as South Africa travel focussed). If this were an international competition I would choose Amawalker as the winner. Whilst the Getaway blogs have some great writing, they are a bit light on pictures. Taking everything into account, I would choose 66 Square Feet as my winner for Best Travel Blog.
