Air Madagascar Flights

From the 1st of January 2016, Air Madagascar will no longer operate flights to Madagascar's Ivato Airport (TNR) from Johannesburg. If you are interested in booking flights with Air Madagascar to and from other destinations, please do the following:

News

  • 2013-09-12 Air Madagascar has signed an MoU with the Vanilla Islands Organisation, to help open up air connectivity betweeen islands like Mauritius, Madagascar, Reunion and the Seychelles.

  • 2013-07-21. European Union Reprieve: Air Madagascar, which had previously been completely banned from flying to the EU, has had one of its planes unblocked. The European Aviation Safety Agency has authorised one of the airline's B737s to enter their airspace.

  • 2013-06-04. New Madagascar airport tax: The Madagascar's CAA introduces a departure tax which must be paid by passengers at the airport in MGA or USD: $2.50 for a domestic flight in Madagascar, and $14.35 for long-haul & regional flights. Exceptions are for cabin crew, medical evacuations, infants, pax in direct transit & pax taking off again after a forced landing. This tax was later scrapped on the 27th September 2013.

  • April 2011. Air Madagascar is blacklisted by the European Union, due to safety issues, and so has to stop flying to France.

Luggage allowance

From the 5th September 2012 Air Madagascar has changed its checked-in luggage allowance to 25kg on regional flights (plus 1 piece cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 8kg) and 20kg on domestic flights (plus 1 piece cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 6kg). Special rules for infants. This may have changed, check with the airline at the time of booking.
