South Africa - Which Countries Can You Travel To?

After days of anguish, the South African government finally released their list of travel destinations to which restrictions would still apply. The restrictions currently applies on all leisure travel to these destinations, with exceptions for business travellers and those with high-skills visas, diplomats, sports people, and investors.Travellers from "high risk" countries can avoid travel restrictions by spending 10 days before entering South Africa in a low risk country, according this government statement. Travel from Africa is not restricted. Air France, KLM, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, Emirates Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Kenya Airways have all announced that they are resuming South African operations in October 2020.

This list will be updated by government every two weeks.

The following safety measures are also still applicable:

  • Travellers will require a negative COVID test result no older than 72 hours or will have to quarantine for 14 days when entering South Africa. Quarantine will be at their own cost.
  • International travellers can only enter at one of the border postings that have remained open during lockdown or at Cape Town International, OR Tambo and King Shaka Airport.
