"I needed to travel to Yangzhou, China, to present some research findings at a scientific conference to which I had been invited. Cathay Pacific was among the airlines that had regular flights between Johannesburg and Hong Kong and I promptly booked a seat. On the day we were supposed to travel, the fourth engine of the plane would not start in spite of a number of repairs that were tried while we were on the plane. The airline promptly put us in one of the restaurants at the airport where we were served lunch. After lunch we were all booked into one of the hotels at the airport for the night. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The following day we were put on another plane and set out on the thirteen hour trip to Hong Kong around mid-day. We landed at Hong Kong at around eight o'clock the following morning. I took another Cathay Pacific flight to Pudong International Airport in Shanghai in a couple of hours."Stephen
