Mayor's R100k Car Rental - we can't find it!

We were reading how the mayor of Nketoana in the Free State spent nearly R100,000 on a month for car hire with Avis; and some thought this was impossible. Challenge accepted!

• We cheated a bit and chose the most expensive month of the year to hire cars, December 2024 in Cape Town, when you are competing with the multitude of tourists for vehicles.
• We assumed that the mayor drives a lot, and would choose the unlimited mileage option.
• Automatic transmission to make the driving a bit easier.
• Free breakdown assistance option.
• Free cancellation up to 48 hours before rental option chosen.

Why 30 days car rental is sometimes cheaper than 29 days

We'll illustrate this using Gqeberha PE car rental rates, but the same applied at other spots we checked (OR Tambo and Cape Town); that it costs less to hire a vehicle with Sani Car Rental in Gqeberha for 30 days than for 29 days:

• 29 days from 1 Nov 2024 to 30 Nov 2024 : R9 531
• 30 days from 1 Nov 2024 to 1 Dec 2024 : R5 899
