A company called Standby Travel (the inspiration behind Santaco Airlines) this week approached parliament for funding. Standby Travel aim to sell discounted flights, but passengers only know whether there's a seat available for them 48 hours before the flight.

The Bottom Line: A wage subsidy would encourage employment, however if it's only for the youth it will lead employers to favouring young employees over older ones, so it needs to be more general. This would make it more expensive and subsidies need to be financed from somewhere, so perhaps the solution is to increase the company tax rate in order to finance the wage subsidy, so you take an equivalent amount from companies to that which you are giving to them.
