Good to hear that the Western Cape MEC has reported a successful summer season for tourism, with visitors growing by 5%. Numbers for practically all the tourist attractions were up (especially the V&A Waterfront & Table Mountain), except for visits to Robben Island, which declined by 8% (no surprise given that employees there don't even want to be working over the festive season, and were harassing tourists during their strike).

Emirates has added a daily flight to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

The Purple shall rule! "I travelled back to Cape Town on SA221 on January 8th, my husband was on crutches due to a severe bout of Tendonitis, we were booked on aisle seats on a middle row & at Heathrow the check in lady told us that as there were a few empty seats she would block the middle seats for us in order to give us a little more room. Everyone on the flight was extremely helpful especially the steward who telephoned ahead to ensure that a wheelchair would be waiting for us in Cape Town. So often these days people only make a lot of noise when things go wrong so I would like to make some when they went right. Thank you, we always chose to fly SAA & will continue to do so in the future."

The Bottom Line: "An industrial company's finances are not conservative unless the common stock (at book value) represents at least half of the total capitalisation, including all bank debt. For a railroad or public utility the figure should be at least 30%." Ben Graham in The Intelligent Investor"
