The Purple shall rule! "I am really dissapointed with Greyhound. I had bought a return ticket to Durban for the 16th Dec coming back onthe 18th Dec 2011. First of all before we left Joburg our bus was delayed for an hour - we were supposed to have left at 8:15 but we only left at  9:20 with no explanation why the bus was delayed, and the most annoying thing is that the lane next to us of Intercape Buses were all on time. On Sunday when coming back the bus was again delayed for 3hrs - I was supposed to have left Durban at 13:45 but ended up leaving after 17:00. I had always been a loyal Greyhound passenger but that was my last time paying money for crappy service, and the worst part is that they think buying burgers, chips and cooldrink for the passengers will make up for the inconvenience." Mtyelwaa

"Hi, on the 15th of Dec I took an Intercape bus to Cape town with only Bellville and CPT passengers wow what a pleasant journey we had as it was my first time to CPT and also with Intercape bus,on the 18th of Dec I was suppose to catch the 11am bus from CPT to JHB firstly the bus was an hour late yes we got sms's but i left an hour later too, the bus was soooo slow when we asked why they told us it has a fault the moment it picked up speed it will go side ways so we had to travel from 60 to 80 to JHB bear in mind the reason i chose that bus it will arrive in JHB at 5am so that i can be able to make it to work, approaching Colesberg the emergency sunroof opened out of the blue all men in the bus had to stand and hold it as it was heavily raining, the bus had to pull over and the drivers and the host tried to close it and it did of which that was another delay, basically we got to JHB park station at 9am yesterday feet so swollen, its not enough getting an apology from the host other bus services even offer free breaksfast on the next refreshment garager just to apologise for the delay i was really disappointed with the service whereas i was impressed on the 15th as it left JHB exactly at 12am on the dot and arrived so early in CPT." Two readers have written about cockroaches on buses:

"My name is Bulelwa, a very loyal customer of City2city and Translux bus. I have been using their bus services ever since I was a student, travelling from Cape Town to George, George to PE, PE to EL, George to Mt Frere and so on. On the 18th of December I used their services from George to Cape Town, and the bus left George at 23:15. The minute I got to the bus, I was so uncomfortable, couldn’t even sleep properly because of the dirtiness of the bus. Cockroaches dancing throughout the night even on our heads, that was one experience that was so disgusting and being the loyal customer who always recommended your services to friends and family, I was so disappointed that I do not see myself and my family using their services In the near future. I believe their company does not have control over such things, but can be eliminated by fumigating the buses every now and then, not all of us are fine with such dirtiness……………..as we pay for travelling, so we also deserve to be treated with respect and the buses should be cleaned! Concerned and furious customer."

"I am a member of a family of 40 members which were traveling back from Port Elizabeth at 16:45 on the 18th December on bus no. J1502 and if nothing is done about this bus then Greyhound will be losing many more customers than myself and many of my Family member. I am talking about a bus that has a cockroach and the toilet doesn't flush. This was a long drive with a bus that was liking because of the aircon that needed to be switched off, the hostess especially the one that was swapped at one random area stop was so rude and loud even stated how she has a degree in electrical engineering and does not need crap from customers she went on and on from when she got in just before Bloemfontein. As the bus was occupied by my family of 40 member and two other passengers which were 4 from P.E two passenger were taken to the Pretoria bus for us to have the seats and note that these are not the only seats then one of the drivers when it came to the time of having to rest insisted on sitting on a chair which was already occupied and insulted us verbally with a FOTSEK as we are the ones that will not arrive in time in Johannesburg. At some point I asked for coffee and was told that this is served at a certain time and I had to wait until that time. One last thing, and this really sealed the coffin one of my cousins child was noticed missing when we arrived in Johannesburg, last stop was in Kroonstad...what happened to the head count. I need Greyhound to do something about the people that were suppose to care for us as paying customer, you know exactly who they are..."

The Bottom Line: "Buying a neglected and therefore undervalued issue for profit generally proves a protracted and patience-trying experience. And selling short a too popular and therefore overvalued issue is apt to be a test not only of one's courage and stamina but also of the depth of one's pocketbook."
